Most  British  couples,  whether  religious or not, have a church wedding, which combines the

religious rite with the legal contract. Wedding arrangement for  inviting and  entertaining guests at

wedding are usually the responsibility of the bride’s family. In most cases it is mainly friends and

relations of  both  families  who are invited, but when the bride’s father is a person with prominent

social  standing  or  a  businessman  of  some  kind,  the wedding reception may provide a useful

occasion for establishing social  connections  with  those people whose goodwill may be of great

advantage to him and his family. It is, however, the bride’s mother who has the job of sending out

the formal printed invitation cards.

In the case of church wedding, the vicar of each parish in which the bride and bridegroom live

is normally  informed  about a month in advance of the ceremony so that an announcement of  the

coming wedding can be made in church on each of three Sundays before it takes place.  Anyone

who  happens  to  know  of  an  existing  marriage  of either  partner is obliged to give information

about it, though this means of avoiding  bigamy must have been more  effective  in the days when

people moved about the world less  than they do today.  Often  up  to  a  hundred  or more people

attend the religious service and the church and the bride usually  wears  the   traditional long while

dress and veil, while her bridesmaids, who are often  children,  wears  long  dresses  in  attractive

colours. The  wedding  ceremony  resembles  an  Christian  service   during  which  the bride and

bridegroom make promises to each other,  according to  which,  whatever  unforeseen difficulties

they may encounter, they  will remain loyal to  each  other  until  they die. The  wedding  ceremony

may also happen in the case of a civil wedding in a register office but  is probably less usual and

more purely legal.

After the ceremony, there is nearly always a “reception”,  consisting of a light meal, which are

usually held in a restaurant or in a local hall when a great  number of  guests  attend.  But  it  may

also be held in the bride’s own home when there are few guests. Refreshments are  provided, a

special  iced wedding cake is cut  (usually to the accompaniment of speeches)  and  distributed

to the guests, toasts are drunk and dancing may  follow. A t some  point  in  the  celebration,  the

bride goes off to change into her everyday clothes and then leaves the party with her husband to

go on their  honeymoon, the  journey  they  will  make   together, often  in  romantic surroundings

abroad, during which they enjoy all the pleasure and none of the responsibilities of married life.

                                                                                                                               (446 words)

Wedding arrangement for inviting and entertaining guests at a wedding are usually the

responsibility of the bride’s family.

22.  【答案】  A

是在婚礼前三周的每个星期天在教堂发通告(…… so that an annoucement of the coming

wedding can be made in church on each of three Sundays before it takes place.)

(But it may also be held in the

bride’s own home when there are few guests. )。

At some point in the celebration, the bride goes off to change into her

everyday clothes and then leaves the party with her husband to go on their homeymoon. “at

The wedding ceremony may also happpen in the case of a civil wedding

in a register office but is probably less usual and more purely legal.
