【语法结构】         “ 动词 ....... of …… ”  结构



在这一结构中,of  有可有两层意思:


A. 与 remind、warn、notify、apprise、advise、convince、persuade、

     assure、supect、accuse、convict等动词连用时,of 用法接近 about,表



remind sb. of sth.    提醒某人某事; 使某人想起某事


1)Please remind me of the time when I should finish my speech.


2)Now that you remind me of this matter, I have a vague impression of it.


3)The story reminds me of an experience I once had.



inform sb. of sth.    通知某人某事; 


1)We will inform you of the result as soon as we have completed the experiment.   


2)Please inform us of your decision and we will act accordingly.


3)The appellant shall also be informed of any right to further appeal.



advise sb. of sth.    告知某人某事


1)Experienced seamen will advise you about sailing in this weather.


 2)They have advised us of their program to establish a new power station in the area.   


 3)The public have been advised of the new regualtions.



notify sb. ofsth.   通知某人某事


 1)Please notify us of any change of address in time.


 2)Whenever a software update is available you will be notified of it.


 3)Due to your excessive delay in delivery, we notify you of our cancellation of 




apprise sb. of sth.    通知某人某事


1)We must apprise them of the dangers that may be involved.


2)After our technicians have the damage appraised, we will apprise you of the results.

     待我们的技术人员鉴定损失后, 我们会通知你结果。

3)The court clerk will notify you of when and where to appear.



warn sb. of sth.    警告某人某事、告诫某人某事


1)We have warned them of the possible risks involved in the project.


 2)Black clouds warned us of the approaching storm.


 3)Two men waved flags to warn the drivers of the danger ahead.



convince sb. of sth.    使某人相信某事、说服某人相信某事


1)No matter how hard I tried. I could not convince him of the truth of the matter.


 2)We find it difficult to convince them of the feasiblity of the project.


 3)We must convince the students of the need for wider reading.



persuade sb. of sth.     使某人相信某事、说服某人相信某事


 1)Since John let me down time and again, he will never persuade me of his   

      sincerity and truthfulness.


 2)They tried to persuade us of the truth of the report.


 3)Despite his repeated explanations, he could not persuade me of his innocence.



assure sb. of sth.    向某人保证某事、使某人确信某事


      1)I can assure you of the ac curacy of the figures used in the report. I have 

            checked them time and again.


      2)We wish to assure you of the punctual shipment of your order.


      3)Last night's resounding victory over Birmingham City has virtually assured  

           them of promotion.


      4)Picasso’s artistic genius and achievement assured him of a dominant place  in 

           the history of modern art.



suspect sb. of sth.    怀疑某人做了某事


1)I suspect him of having given away the details of the contract to the rival company.


2)Why do you suspect the truth of the information? Have you got any evidence 

     against it?

     你为什么凭空怀疑这消息的真实性? 你拿到什么证据吗?

3)He couldn't explain the irregularities in the balance sheet, and I suspect him of 

     taking the money.

     他无法解释资产负债表中的不正常的情况, 我怀疑他把钱放进自己腰包了。


accuse sb. of sth.    指责、谴责、指控某人某事,of 后可接 sth. 或 doing sth.。


1)His father would accuse him of neglecting his filial duties.


2)The police accused her assistant of theft and fraud.


3)The secretary had to resign after she was accused of giving away the secret of 

      the company.


4)The company is accused of not paying its due taxes for the past two years.



convict sb. of stn.     判决、宣告某人有某项罪行。


1)The fingerprints found on the knife were used to convict him of the murder.


2)The judge convicted the criminal of serving ten years of his sentence.


 3)You can't convict me of fraud if you are unable to show conclusive evidence.




B. 与 break、ckear、rob、rid、defraud、deprive、delete、strippe、

    relieve、ease、cure、等动词连用时,of 表示“失掉、清除、摆脱”等意思。


clear sb. /sth. of sth.     清除、解脱某人(某物)某物


1)Soaking is the best way to clear the vegetables of the remnant of pesticides before 



2)The judge cleared the prisoner of any crime and set him free..


3)You must clear the road of any obtacle within three hours.



rob sb./sth. of sth.        抢劫某人某物,剥夺某人某物


1)A pickpocket robbed him of his month’s salary.


2)That confounded cat robbed me of a good night’s sleep.


3)He was robbed of his wife and children in the war.



rid sb./sth. of sth.   去除、清除某人某物,使某人摆脱、解脱某物


 1)Further measures will be taken to rid our streets of crime.


 2)The dentist rid me of the pain by taking out the bad tooth.


 3)We must try every way to rid ourselves of these debts.



deprive sb./sth. of sth.       剥夺某人某物,使某人丧失某物


 1)Once deprived of oxygen for more than five to seven minutes, the brain will 

      be subjected to irreversible damage.


2)The heavy shade of the oak trees deprived the house of light.


3)Life is the most valuable in the world. Whoever have no power to deprive the 

     others of thier lives.


4)If you do not drive carefully, I shall be obliged to deprive you of your licence.



deplete sb./sth. of sth.       用尽、耗尽


1)Mankind must take care not to deplete the earth of its natural resources.


2)We must try our best to deplete the enemy of their effective force.


3)When you invest in something, you shoulod by no account deplete yourself 

     of all your possessions.



defraud …… of ……      欺骗、诈骗某人某物


1)His purpose of disguising himself as a wizard is to defraud people of their money.


2)She accused him of having defrauded her of twenty thousand dollars.


3)Land speculators tried to defraud him of his savings.



relieve sb./sth. of sth.   解除、减轻某人(负担、压力、痛苦等)


1)A very funny joke may relieve you of a whole day's fatigue.   


2)Gradually, the computer will relieve man of all monotonous, dull routine work.   


3)The adoption of this new policy would relieve the unions of a tremendous  burden.     



ease sb./sth.  of sth.    消除、减轻某人(负担、压力、痛苦等)


1)The doctor promised that the medicine he had prescribed would ease the poor 

      man of his suffering.   


2)The canal system should be made full used of to ease the roads of some of their 

      heavy traffic.    


3)Do write to your mother to ease her of her worry.



cure sb. of sth.      治愈好你某人的病,改掉、纠正某人的(恶习、缺点等)


1)He was much obliged to Doctor Smith, because he sucessfully cured him of his 



 2)This medicine can cure you of your cold.


 3)The teacher helped the boy to cure him of biting his nail.
