【英语词汇】 condemn、denounce、reproach、scold、rebuke、reprimand

这组词都可表示“指责”、“谴责”、“斥责”、“训斥”的意思。

 

condemn   “指责”、“谴责”,正式用词,指根据社会和公共道德提出的指责或谴责。

 

    1)His foolish behavior was condemned by everyone in his class.

           他的愚蠢行为受到班所有同学的的谴责。

    2)We strongly condemn their shamelessly deceptive practices in the business transaction.

           我们强烈谴责他们在商业上无耻的欺诈行为。

    3)Political leaders united yesterday to condemn the latest wave of violence.

          政界领袖昨日联合起来对最近激增的暴力事件予以谴责。

    4)We all condemn the inhuman brutal crimes against women and children.

           我们一致谴责这种灭绝人性的摧残妇女儿童的暴行。

 

denounce     “指责”、“谴责”,指公开的指责或谴责。

 

    1)Union official denounce the action as a breach of the agreement

          工会负责人谴责这一行动破坏了协议。

    2)The Chinese Government and people strongly denounce and oppose terrorism of all forms.

           中国政府和人民坚定不移地谴责和反对一切形式的恐怖主义

    3)The spokesman denounced the attacks and pleaded for tolerance from all sides involved.

            该发言人谴责了袭击事件,并呼吁有关各方克制。

    4)But local dentists and doctors denounce the practice, saying it can cause other mouth

          diseases.

          但是当地的牙医和医生都谴责这种习惯,他们认为这会引发多种口腔疾病。

 

reproach   “指责”、“谴责”,指因不满他人某方面而进行的责备或斥责。常用结构:

        reproch sb. for sth.   reproach 也可用作名词。

 

    1)She reproached her husband for having forgotten their wedding anniversary.

           她责怪丈夫忘了他们的结婚周年纪念日

    2)Mother often reproaches me for being too clumsy at home.

           在家里母亲常责备我笨手笨脚。

    3)Don't reproach her any more.Anyway,she seemed to behave foolishly but with good intent.

           别再责备她了,虽说她的行为是有些鲁莽,但她的出发点是好的。

    4)He was reproached by the teacher for insulting one of his classmates.

           他被老师训斥,因为他侮辱了一位同学。

    

    5)She got a sharp reproach from her boss.

           她受到了上司的严厉训斥。

    6)She looked at me with a look of reproach.

          她用责备的眼光看着我。

    7)Accusations and reproaches from both parties made it difficult to pursue discussions.

           双方的相互辱骂和指责很难继续进行讨论。

 

scold    基本意思是“骂”、“谩骂”,也可表示“训斥”、“斥责”、“责备”、“谴责”,侧重

      指态度粗暴、言词激烈。

 

    1)The disobedient son went out of his way to scold his parents.

           这个不孝顺的儿子出轨谩骂他的父母。

    2)The poor girl was often scolded by his step-mother.

           这个可伶的女孩常受继母的责骂。

    3)Take it easy on your son and don't scold him too much

          对你儿子不要操之过急,不要过分训斥他。

    4)I didnlt dare to tell you about it, I was afraid you would scold her if you knew.

          我不敢把就这件事告诉你,怕你知道了会责备她。

    5)Tom was bitterly scolded in the office by the manager simply because he answered back.

           汤姆在办公室被经理狠狠地训斥一顿,就因为他顶了嘴。

 

rebuke    “指责”、“谴责”“斥责”, 指公开的、强烈的、不宽容的、或带有权威性的责备。

       rebuke 可用作名词。

  

    1)Teachers should not rebuke their students in front of everyone.

           老师不应该在众人面前责骂自己的学生。

    2)She rebuked him strongly for his negligence,which caused the final failure.

          他的疏忽造成了最终的失败,为此她严厉斥责他。

    3)Be do grateful to those who rebuke you ,because they abet your wisdom.

           一定要感激那些斥责你的人,因为他们助长了你的智慧。

    4)He felt that he ought to rebuke the lady for presuming so to talk to a gentleman many years 

           senior to her.

           他觉得他实在应该斥责这个女人,她竟对年长多岁的先生说这么放肆的话。

   

    5)She dares not stay out late for fear of a parental rebuke.

          她怕父母训斥,不敢很晚不归。

    6)He received a stern rebuke from his superior.

         他受到上司的严厉斥责。

 

reprimand     “训斥”、“斥责”、 “谴责”,指比较正式或严肃的训斥或斥责(to rebuke

     severely, especially in a formal way)。   reprimand 可用作名词,除了表示“谴责”、

     “训斥”外,还可以表示“惩戒”。

 

    1)The policeman reprimanded the driver for turning without a signal.

          警察训斥司机不打信号就拐弯。

    2)He was reprimanded by a teacher for talking in the corridor

          他因为在走廊里讲话受到了一位老师的斥责。

    3)Her attempts to reprimand him were quickly shouted down..

          她本想斥责他,但很快就被大声喝止了。

    4)The Police are investigating online rumors and have said they will reprimand those

         responsible for spreading unfounded allegations.

          警方现正调查网上传言,并表示他们将谴责那些散布毫无根据辩解的责任者。

 

    5)He was hauled up by the company leader and given a severe reprimand.

          他被公司领导传讯并受到严厉的斥责。

    6)An incensed Ms Aubry replied, unusually, with a public letter of reprimand.

          被激怒的奥布里一反常态地用一封公开谴责信进行回复。

   7)The student received a severe reprimand for cheating in the terminal examination

           这个学生因在期末考试中作弊而受到一次严重警告处分。
